The helmet has a hard anti-impact ABS outer shell over a soft high-density EPS inner, with a rotating knob that adjusts the fit from 54 to 58 cm head circumference. The sweat pad inside is removable and washable.
The pads matter as much as the helmet at this age. The knee and elbow pads have hard PVC shells over thickened sponge, the wrist guards carry extra foam, and all six pieces strap on with adjustable elastic that fits across the age range and stays put while moving.

A helmet that rocks side to side protects nobody. Measure your child's head just above the eyebrows: anywhere from 54 to 58 cm and the rear dial will pull this helmet snug. Set it level, two fingers above the eyebrows, buckle the strap so one finger fits underneath, and do the shake test. The removable sweat pad keeps the inside comfortable, which is half the battle in getting a child to keep it on.
The pads are not optional extras
At the 5-to-12 age, knees, elbows and wrists take most of the falls. The hard PVC shells spread an impact and slide instead of gripping the ground, which is what stops a scrape becoming a sprain.
